East AngliaAlthough within commuting distance of London, East Anglia speaks of a slower pace of life, a gentler, less hectic existence, closer to nature and the passing seasons. The Raphael Steiner School is situated along the Norfolk Suffolk border, surrounded by many beautiful villages. Flint churches with their distinctive round towers, and pink thatch cottages abound in the area; the nearby market towns retain their unique qualities and characteristics; and many small locally owned stores and businesses thrive. Traffic flows freely, and the occasional holds ups are more likely to be tractors and combine harvesters, than road works or accidents.
The historic and beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds is only a 40-minute drive, full of shops, restaurants, theatres and other cultural centres, and Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk, is situated 40 minute in the other direction. The whole area is rich in the country’s heritage, with several medieval castles within an hours drive away; and the beautiful coastline of Suffolk is less than an hour to the east.
Road and rail access to the area is good. The railway runs through Diss to London Liverpool Street, and the school is only ½ hour from the A14. House prices are still comparatively reasonable, particularly for those relocating from London, with many interesting and characterful properties to buy and rent.
